Together We Can Fight This: BAC Launches CovidFund.my

Months ago, the world watched as India, our neighbouring country, struggled to battle the rage of this pandemic. Today, the effect of this pandemic hits closer to home. As the fourth wave of Covid-19 hits Malaysia, our strained healthcare system is gasping for air. Despite best efforts to combat this surge, with nearly 17,000 new cases daily, and deaths recorded on the rise, our hospitals and frontliners are grasping at straws.

The Plight

With a vicious daily influx of infected people, Malaysian hospitals throughout the nation are running out of time. Healthcare facilities and supplies are running low. Our Intensive Care Units are in dangerously short supply of crucial equipment and necessities such as ventilators, oxygen concentrators and tanks, beds, and medication. To make matters worse, healthcare workers are at the end of their ropes – overworked, exhausted, stressed, isolated. It is true that they took the oath as medical practitioners, one to be held sacred till their last day of service, “treat the sick to the best of one’s ability, preserve patient privacy, teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation.” Fully accepting the responsibility of treating the ill to the best of their abilities, with a system on the brink of collapsing, our medical frontliners turn to ask how can they uphold this oath taken? They cannot fight this battle alone and we cannot expect them to.

Responding To the Need

Since last year, BAC Education, under its social good arm, GiveBACk.my has been introducing initiatives to help Malaysians and vulnerable communities get through challenging times. Volunteer teams, collaborative partners and sponsors have been working tirelessly to see this through. In response to this urgent need of medical supplies and equipment, BAC Education launched CovidFund.my, which will hopefully provide some emergency respite for our hospitals and frontliners.

CovidFund.my

The CovidFund.my is an initiative that will be dedicated to mobilising crucial aid to government hospitals and frontliners who are working tirelessly to conquer this. The goal is to raise RM1 million. Funds will be raised to purchase and deliver the needed medical equipment, hygiene supplies, along with other Covid-related medical material required by the government. We wish not to see another human turned away when seeking medical help, and we hope for medical care to be accessible to all, regardless of privilege and financial ability.

The Race Against Time

We have done this before, and we can do it again. To date, RM120,000 has been raised, but there is still a long way to go! We are nowhere near the finish line. With your support, you can help us accomplish this goal and ease the pressure on our frontliners and hospitals. Help us ease the pain and suffering of children and families who do not have access to vital medication and supplies.

From the time this pandemic first hit, we have seen, heard, and read inspiring and heart-warming stories about how fellow Malaysians have come together during these grim times, to help and uplift one another. Let us come together again to help those who have been risking their very lives to help us. Help us help our healthcare.

This pandemic is at its worst, but do not let the disillusionment distract you from the opportunity to help and support our hospitals and frontliners.

Join the fight, support our healthcare system, protect our people.
