125 Students Receive School Books and Stationery After Devastating Floods in Gampola

As families in Gampola continue to rebuild their lives after the devastating floods triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, one group in particular faced a significant setback: schoolchildren who lost their books, stationery, and learning materials to the rising waters. To ensure that their education was not affected, Uplift's volunteers delivered a full set of school books and stationery to 125 affected students on December 4th, 2025.

The initiative, funded through a fundraiser mobilised by Uplift (Pertubuhan Bangkit), GiveBACk.my, BAC Education, and the Malaysian Ceylonese Congress (MCC), with support from the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Malaysia, aims to help children resume their studies as soon as possible.

When the floods swept through Gampola, hundreds of families reported losing school bags, textbooks, notebooks, and basic stationery - essentials that many parents could not replace immediately. Recognising the urgent need to support children’s education, Uplift's partner in Sri Lanka procured and distributed a comprehensive set of school items, ensuring each recipient had the necessary tools to return to class with confidence.
