100 Families in Trincomalee Receive Life-Sustaining Relief
When Cyclone Ditwa unleashed days of relentless rainfall across Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee District, communities were hit with sudden, destructive flooding that cut off entire villages from food, clean water and essential supplies. Among the worst affected was Valaithoddam Village, where water levels rose rapidly, damaging homes, destroying stored food stocks and forcing families to seek emergency shelter.
Through our partnership with Vanni Hope, critical aid was delivered directly to families in Valaithoddam at the height of the crisis. A total of 100 dry-food packs (each containing vital staples) were distributed to families who had no way to access shops or return to their damaged homes.
Many residents were forced to relocate to schools, community centres or nearby homes for safety. For those cut off by waterlogged roads and rising tides, these food packs were a lifeline, bridging a crucial gap until conditions stabilised.
While the immediate food assistance has brought stability to families in Valaithoddam , the journey to recovery is only beginning.
Floodwaters have damaged homes, destroyed food reserves and left many households without basic household essentials. Uplift will continue to monitor developments, ensuring support reaches vulnerable communities as they rebuild.
