100 Emergency Relief Packs Delivered to Flood-Hit Families in Gampola
In Gampola, where landslides and rising waters, caused by Cylone Ditwah, displaced families and damaged homes, 100 emergency relief packs were distributed to flood survivors, offering essential supplies at a critical time.
The relief distribution was made possible through funds raised by Uplift (Pertubuhan Bangkit), GiveBACk.my, BAC Education, and the Malaysian Ceylonese Congress (MCC), with support from the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Malaysia.
Gampola, a central region heavily impacted by torrential rains, landslides and overflowing rivers, saw entire neighbourhoods damaged, leaving families without access to food, clean water, and basic essentials. With supply routes cut off and local resources stretched thin, the arrival of relief packs brought immediate and much-needed assistance.
Each of the 100 relief packs provided to affected households contained essential items to meet short-term needs - helping families stabilise while waiting for longer-term support and recovery efforts.
Uplift's local volunteers ensured the packs were delivered directly to households most affected by displacement and infrastructural damage.
Even as waters recede, thousands of families in Sri Lanka face a long recovery ahead. Damage to homes, loss of livelihoods, and continued risks of waterborne disease underscore the need for ongoing support.
