Malaysian Ceylonese Congress Rallies Global Support for Sri Lanka’s Flood Victims
As Sri Lanka grapples with the aftermath of the devastating floods triggered by Cyclone Ditwa, one Malaysian organisation wasted no time stepping forward. The Malaysian Ceylonese Congress (MCC) became one of our first partners to answer the call for help, mobilising its nationwide network, and even its diaspora, to support urgent humanitarian relief efforts.
When Uplift launched its emergency fundraiser, MCC immediately sprang into action. The appeal was swiftly shared across MCC’s branches, prompting an outpouring of generosity from members across Malaysia, with some donations arriving from as far away as Australia. Their rapid response and deep sense of community helped accelerate crucial fundraising at a time when over one million Sri Lankans were stranded, displaced, and in desperate need of aid.
Thanks to MCC’s partnership, Uplift was able to channel funds quickly to its on-ground collaborators in Sri Lanka. These partners immediately deployed essential relief (food packs, clean water, and other necessities) to flood-hit communities. Lives were stabilised not through the efforts of one organisation, but through the collective compassion of many who refused to stand by in silence.

The needs, however, remain immense. Thousands of families are still rebuilding their lives, and phase two of the disaster relief mission is already underway. Those who wish to contribute can donate here.
