UPLIFT Brings Food Relief to B40 Families in Desa Mentari

On 17 October 2025, the narrow corridors and open courtyards of Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya, were filled with smiles, gratitude and a renewed sense of hope. UPLIFT and BAC reached out once again to ease the lives of 65 B40 families through its Food Aid programme — a heartfelt initiative that continues to change lives, one family at a time.

For many families living in Desa Mentari, life can often feel like an uphill climb. Rising food prices, unstable income and day-to-day expenses leave little room for comfort. But on this particular day, that struggle was met with kindness. Volunteers from BAC arrived with carloads of food supplies — simple but vital items that would bring relief to those who needed it most.

Each family received a comprehensive food pack, which included:

  • 5kg of rice
  • 1kg of planta
  • 1kg of murukku flour
  • 1.7kg of wheat flour
  • 2L of cordial drink
  • 1kg of sugar
  • 1 pack of teabags
  • 2kg of cooking oil
  • 1 bag of assorted biscuits
  • 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk

These items may seem modest, but for families facing financial strain, they represented a sense of stability, the assurance of a meal shared around the table and the warmth of community care.

The food aid distribution is part of UPLIFT’s ongoing commitment to addressing three key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 1 – No Poverty
  • SDG 2 – Zero Hunger
  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being

By meeting the immediate needs of vulnerable households, UPLIFT is not only fighting hunger but also restoring dignity and confidence within the community.

For many of the recipients, this was a reminder that someone cares, and that their struggles are seen. And that compassion, when shared, multiplies.

Strengthening the Spirit of Community

Desa Mentari, often known for its dense population and diverse residents, became a hub of human connection that day. Parents expressed gratitude with heartfelt smiles, children helped carry the food packages back to their flats and volunteers exchanged words of encouragement with those they served.

It was a human connection that bridged differences and reminded everyone present that empathy is a powerful force for change.

A Simple Gesture, A Profound Impact

As the final boxes were handed out and the sun dipped below the skyline of Petaling Jaya, there was a quiet but profound sense of fulfilment among the volunteers. What began as a simple act of kindness had turned into a day of shared humanity. Through initiatives like this, UPLIFT continues to stand as a beacon of hope, ensuring that even in difficult times, compassion prevails and no family is left behind.
